It seems strange to me that everyone would not be a feminist - and that means for women and men alike. If you believe in the social, political, and economic equality for women and men then you are by definition a feminist.
Unfortunately, this word has become a "label" with a certain set of definitions attached, not always positive, and not really related. It seems that the word has become a way to marginalize a population hoping to end marginalization.
So my request from you is to join me on a "Feminist Out List" - a hopefully large population of proud individuals that are declaring nothing more than that they believe in equality for women and men alike. My plan is to publish this list of names in the UCLA Daily Bruin during the Women for Change week in May (May 19-23, 2008). It will read:
"As part of the UCLA community - students, staff, professors, and/or alumni - we are proud to call ourselves feminists because we believe strongly that there should be social, political and economic equality for men and women."
Finally, if you would like to make a donation (e.g, $5) toward the Daily Bruin ad, send a check made payable to "UC Regents" to:
Roxanne Neal

I would greatly appreciate your support in funding this. Please note, however, that you do NOT need to make a donation to put your name on the list.
I invite you to join me in celebrating during Women for Change Week, to recognize women and the issues facing women.
